Chinese peacekeeping medical detachment to Sudan celebrates Valentine's Day before setting out

On February 14, the traditional Valentine s Day of western countries, the medical detachment leaders present roses to nine female members on behalf of the 54 male members of the detachment.

The 8th Chinese peacekeeping medical detachment to Wau, Sudan, which is under training in Xinzheng, Henan Province, consists of 63 people. The personnel of the medical detachment are selected from 24 different units with the people from the No. 371 Hospital of the People s Liberation Army as the mainstay. After two-month-long intensified training, the medical detachment will fly to Sudan to implement the medical support missions given by the United Nations.

Since the beginning of the intensified training on January 12, the members of the medical detachment have stayed in the training camp and nobody asked for leave to go home for a reunion with their families, even on the traditional Spring Festival. They spent the festival in the training camp.

On February 14, nine female medical workers received the sincere wishes from the detachment leaders and all their male comrades-in-arms. With rose in hand, Xu Xiyan, a female member of the medical detachment, said excitedly: "This rose from my teammate rather than my lover is full of comradeship as well as deep peacekeeping passion. It s the most meaningful Valentine's Day for me!"
