Hui Liangyu attends the grand award ceremony for model agencies and individuals in agriculture and presents awards

Hui Liangyu, Vice Premier of the State Council and member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), attended the commending meeting held in Beijing for model agencies and individuals in grain production and winners of the National Fengshou Award for Agriculture, Livestock Industry and Fisheries. Hui extended his congratulations to the award-winners and fully recognized their notable contributions to the increase in grain output, the development of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, and agricultural technology extension. He also encouraged them to cherish the honor and make greater efforts on the basis of current achievements to take the lead in making new highs in steady development of grain production, promoting innovation and application of agricultural science and technology, ensuring effective supply of agricultural products and improving steady and rapid growth of agriculture and rural economy.

In 2010, in the face of severe natural disasters, abnormal fluctuation of agricultural markets and complex external environment, agricultural departments at all levels, under the firm leadership of the Central Committee and the State Council, conscientiously implemented policies to aid agriculture and benefit farmers. Thanks to their creative and down-to-earth efforts, all-round progress has been made in agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries. For example, agriculture and rural economy have kept the momentum for continued improvement over the past six years, especially grain production which has reached the record 546.4 million tons, an increase for the seventh consecutive year and also the first time to have kept at above 500 million tons for four years in a row. This achievement in grain output has provided strong support for managing inflation expectations and maintaining steady and rapid economic development. In addition, we have also witnessed notable upgrading of agricultural science and technology facilities, constant improvement in agricultural technology extension system and acceleration in agricultural scientific and technological innovation, making significant contribution to stable development of agriculture.

In order to mobilize the initiative of local governments, farmers and agricultural departments in creating a favorable environment nationwide of attaching close attention to agriculture, science and technology, the Ministry of Agriculture has issued awards to those agencies and individuals in honor of their contributions to and achievements in grain production and agricultural scientific and technological development in the year 2010. For example, agencies and individuals from Jilin, Henan, Shandong, and Hebei provinces etc. are included in the list of award-winners.
