Last Permanent Structure of TGP

Contract of World Biggest Shiplift Awarded to CGGC

Effect Drawing of TGP Shiplift

CGGC was awarded contract of civil works and part of equipment installation of TGP shiplift, the last permanent design structure of TGP on 9 Sep 2008.

The permanent navigation system on left bank consists of permanent shiplock open to navigation after six years construction and shiplift ready for preliminary construction at the end of 2007 through numerous studies and discussions of the design proposal.

The shiplift will shortcut navigation for passenger liners and special carriers. The ship carrier is designed of 132m long, 23.4m wide and 10m high to accommodate one 3000t passenger liner or one 1500t barge. Lifting height and ship carrier weight including ship and water of TGP shiplift are 113m and 11,800t while those of all the vertical shiplifts completed or under construction in the world are less than 100m and 9000t. Therefore manufacturing and installation of TGP shiplift are most difficult in the world up to now.

It is known that TGP shiplift consists of upper approach channel, upper lockhead, shiplift, lower lockhead and lower approach channel. It plans to be completed by March 2015 within six years and six months. It will take only 40 minutes for the above-mentioned ships passing through completed shiplift instead of current three hours through permanent shiplock, which will significantly shorten navigation time for ships on the golden Yangtze River.
