Baosteel Group Shanghai No. 1 Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. Kicks Off Stainless Steel Project

May 9 witnessed the grand ceremony marking the completion of Baosteel No.1 Steel Co.'s stainless steel project. The project consists of a stainless steel making line, carbon steel making lines, continuous casting line and 1780 hot rolling line. The design capacity is 2.57 million tons annually: 720 thousand tons of stainless steel. This is Baosteel's prime project for building its premium steel base. The completion of the project will upgrade China's stainless steel making technology to the world class level.

Xu Kuangdi, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Consultive Conference and Dean of China Academy of Engineering sent a telegram of congratulation. Li Rongrong, minister of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission pressed the button to start the operation. Wu Xichun, Chairman of China Iron and Steel Association attended the ceremony. Xie Qihua, chairwoman and president of Shanghai Baosteel Group Corporation, management of Baosteel and more than 300 representatives of design, construction and equipment manufacturing companies attended the ceremony.

Li Rongrong and Wu Xichun, accompanied by Xie Qihua and Liu Guosheng, visited the steel making mill, the continuous casting mill and the 1780 hot rolling mill after the ceremony.
