On November 18, Chen Huoxin, the 58-year-old head teacher in the Chashan Middle School of Dongguan was viciously beaten by a student named Yuan. The student took revenge for Chen reporting to his parents concerning his problematic behaviour such as smoking and absence from classes.
Chen is suffering from a rupture in the retina ligament of his right eye which might call an end to his teaching career. The possibility of blindness and disability has not been ruled out yet, said his doctor. The student has been detained by the police for further investigation.
The event caused a sensation in the local online forums and has added fuel to another round of debate on respecting teachers and valuing education.
