With the 5 new postdoctoral research stations founded last December, the current number of postdoctoral research stations in Dongguan amounts to 14, only fourth to Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Foshan in Guangdong Province.
The 5 enterprises approved to establish postdoctoral research stations are Camda Generator Work Co.,Ltd, Kingsun Optoelectronics Co., Ltd, Sino Nitride Semiconductor Co Ltd., Guangdong Shengyi Sci. Tech Co., Ltd., and Amperex Technology Limited.
Since 2004, Dongguan has invested over 15 million yuan in supporting postdoctoral research. An endowment of 300,000 yuan from the Dongguan Government has been granted to each of the enterprises for the initial running of postdoctoral research stations. 100,000 yuan will be given to the post-doctorates in the stations each year as an allowance for scientific research and living costs. Those who still work in Dongguan after leaving the stations will receive a 200,000 yuan subsidy.
The postdoctoral research stations now cover the key industries and fields in Dongguan, including medical biotechnology, new energy resources, new materials, energy-saving and environmental protection technology, LED and equipment manufacturing etc.
In order to meet the need of pillar industries development in the city, Dongguan has enrolled 27 post-doctorates, 22 of who are working in the research stations. Currently, there are 8 academicians, 67 doctors and 167 masters being engaged to scientific research in enterprises-founded postdoctoral research stations.
