A new check-in counter was opened at Bao'an Bus Terminal in Shenzhen to handle Shenzhen and Dongguan travelers traveling via the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the Nanfang Daily reported yesterday.

The paper said a shuttle service to the airport would also be provided at the bus terminal at a cost of 90 yuan (US$13.64) per person. Air tickets for flights departing the Baiyun airport could be bought at the counter.

Shenzhen residents flying from Guangzhou airport could formerly only go to Bagualing in Futian District for an airport shuttle that takes about three hours to reach the airport.

Exterior check-in services had become increasingly popular. Airports in a few Pearl River Delta cities such as Shenzhen and Hong Kong had adopted exterior services in the past two years.

In 2009, Shenzhen airport opened two check-in counters in Dongguan to serve people in the area traveling via Shenzhen. The airport has 17 other counters in other Pearl River Delta cities.

After check-in, travelers can take shuttle buses from the counters to Shenzhen airport to board their plane.

Check-in services for flights from Hong Kong airport were available at Shenzhen airport and the Shekou port.
