Liu Hanyuan: the Exemplar around Us

December 13 standing committee member of the CPPCC, standing committee member of China Democratic National Construction Association central committee, and Board Chairman of Tongwei Group, Mr. Liu Hanyuan made a presentation at the Great Hall of People on Tongwei group s stories of growth and development, as part of the Exemplars around Us for establishing and practicing socialist core value system.

Taking Shouldering responsibility, keeping pace with the times , Mr. Liu s report presented the growth story of Tongwei starting from scratches of 500 yuan to an enterprise that tallies 30 billion yuan in sales a year today. He said, China has become the biggest producing country of aquatic products. Every 2 out of 3 fish are raised by Chinese. Tongwei has become the largest manufacturing company of aquafeed. Over the past 30 years, Tongwei has been committed to its social responsibility, and providing the best quality products and service to society. It has directly led over 1 million household farmers and over 3,000 farmers in the development of farming and the increase of wealth.

Cage culture not only enabled us to gain economic development, but also gained us comfort and pride from co-development. While gaining continuing rise, Tongwei Group attaches great importance to its social responsibility. Tongwei has been actively involved in charity and public welfare establishments: Tongwei Hope Project Award Fund was founded in 1992. It has provided financial assistance to about 2,000 poor students and excellent teachers in poverty-stricken areas in Sichuan including Liangshanzhou, Bazhong, Guangyuan, and Dazhou; Tongwei Aquaculture Education Award Fund was founded. Tongwei donated 1 million RMB to Sichuan Agricultural University for its teaching building construction; 1998, Tongwei donated 3.2 million RMB for the flood-stricken Hunan and Hubei provinces; Tongwei sponsored scientific arctic expedition; In 2007, China Siyuan Program Sunshine Project launched by China Democratic National Construction Association was initiated. This program aims to send high-quality, high-efficiency and eco-friendly household electricity to underdeveloped regions, especially densely inhabited areas of ethnic minorities. For this goal, Tongwei budgets an annual fund of 5 million RMB for 10 consecutive years for scientific solar energy research and new products R &D. On May 12th, 2008, Tongwei offered 12.5 million RMB to Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province right after the 8-magnitude earthquake. Up to now, Tongwei s total value of donation has exceeded 200 million RMB.

At the presentation, Chairman Jia Qinglin gave high credit for Mr. Liu s report, especially for Tongwei s successful experience of constructing the test area of Same-heart Project at Beijie, Guizhou province. He said, this project is explored by multi-party cooperation a project with characteristics of the times, actual effects and social influence. It is the exemplar project and successful experience that can assist the Party and the Government to improve people s livelihood and harmony under the new circumstances.

This presentation of Exemplars around Us was organized by CPC Central Committee Publicity Department, and CPC Central Committee United Front Work Department. Democratic parties, responsible officers of the National Federation of Industry and Commerce, personages with no party affiliation, related officers at different levels of United Front Work Department, and some members of the Central Institute of Socialism attended the meeting.
