On the morning of March 10, a cooperation agreement signing ceremony is held for cooperation between GDUT and University of Applied Science of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI). University President Prof. Zhang Xiangwei, Swiss General Consul Mr. Werner Nievergelt, University Vice President Prof. Zhangli as well as Professor Claudio R. Boer from SUPSI attend the ceremony. The ceremony is hosted by Prof. Wang Chengyong, the President Assistant of GDUT.
University President Prof. Zhang addresses the ceremony. He first extends his warm welcome to guests. He says, aiming at cultivating applied research and engineering management talents in precision manufacturing technology catering to the needs of the industry s upgrade and transformation of Guangdong, Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Department signed the memorandum of understanding about the cooperation in technology, education and training with the Swiss Federal Government Office for Professional Education and Technology in 2007. Under this cooperative framework, the deputy director of Swiss Federal Government Center for Science in China and Council member of Economic Advisers for Guangdong Governor, Prof. Boer from University of Applied Science of Southern Switzerland have visited us twice in last January and February, reaching consensus with GDUT on cooperation. The two sides agreed to initiate cooperation by establishing joint manufacturing center within the 2007 Sino-Swiss framework so as to form closer academic bonds in fields like staff and student exchange, joint research and education, co-hosting of international conferences, etc. The signing ceremony marks the exchanges and cooperation between us has entered a substantive stage of development, added the president.
Swiss Consul General Mr. Werner Nievergelt agrees with President Zhang, saying that the cooperation between the two sides is jut like a small tree, and it is bound to flourish as cooperation develops. By taking this opportunity Mr. Nivergelt also extends his gratitude to President Zhang for the efforts made during the cooperation process. An international conference on precision manufacturing is to be sponsored by the two sides late this year, in which Chinese and Swiss experts and professionals will exchange their ideas. On the same day, Prof. Claudio R. Boer offers a report titled Sustainable Innovation and Innovation for Sustainability for GDUT teachers and students.
