University Welcomed 28 Foreign Ministerial Level Officers

Our university gave the warm welcome to the 28 ministerial level officers from 15 countries on October 12 . The international guests, who were from the member nation of WMO, became the first group of trainees of the management training seminar for meteorological administrators in developing countries . It was also the first time that such seminar for ministerial level was held in China .

At 9 a .m., the grand opening ceremony of seminar was held at the report hall of library. Huang Lixin, vice governor of Jiangsu Province, Yu Rucong, deputy administrator of CMA, and Sun Zhaobo, president of NUIST, addressed in the opening ceremony of seminar respectively. Yang Xiangning, vice director of Jiangsu education department, and Liu Yiping, secretary of university Party committee attended the ceremony. Ye, Qihao, director of the foreign affairs office presided the ceremony.

Mr. Yu Rucong delivered the welcome on behalf of CMA. In his speech, he pointed out that WMO RMTC was the international training institution ratified by UN on the campus of NUIST in 1993, which had made great contribution to the friendly cooperation with the developing countries and to the fostering the advanced meteorological talents in the world.

The management training seminar for meteorological administrators in developing countries had great significance, which would promote the cooperation and friendship between China and the developing countries. He expressed the hope for the deeper cooperation for the development of the world meteorology.

Ms. Huang Lixin delivered the welcome and congratulation on the seminar on behalf of the provincial government, and she also expressed her sincere appreciation to WMO, CMA, and NUIST for their contributions to the meteorological development of Jiangsu province. Then, she gave the brief introduction of Jiangsu province from the point of politics, economy, culture, and education, etc, and analyzed the relationship between the meteorology and human's producing and daily life.

She said that the aim of the seminar was to strengthen the international cooperation and to promote the meteorological development in China and the developing countries. She hoped that the guests would make full use of the seminar to exchange the experience and achievements for the meteorological development in the developing countries.

Last, she wished the seminar to be successful and hoped they would enjoy their stay in Jiangsu .

Professor Sun Zhaobo expressed the hearty welcome to the guests on behalf of the university and introduced the history of university and subject development. He reviewed the history of establishment of the WMO RMTC and its significance, and the achievements to foster the international by the university in recent years. He hoped the more exchange among the trainees and the more gains from the seminar. Therefore, more contributions would be made to the meteorological management development of their nations and the world.

Sheryl Etienne Leblanc expressed the appreciation to NUIST for the preparation for such seminar for the developing countries on behalf of the trainees from the 15 countries.

Mr. Yu Rucong gave the first report An Introduction of CMA's Function and its Work . He introduced in details about the CMA' function, China 's climate characters, the challenge of CMA, CMA's management system, the departments of CMA, and the monitoring net. The report gave the trainees the overall understanding about China 's meteorological work.

The seminar will last 20 days. WMO RTMC will invite Zheng Guoguang, deputy administrator of CMA, Professor Sun Zhaobo, Chen Zhenlin, vice director of the international cooperation of CMA, Luo Jibin, former deputy administrator of CMA, Huwen, vice director of Anhui Meteorological Bureau, and professor Shou Zhaowen and Zhi Xiefei to give various lectures. In addition to the lectures, study tours to Meteorological Bureau of Jiangsu and Shanghai are also organized to improve their management ability practically as well as theoretically.
