SDU Held Appointment Ceremony for National Distinguished Visiting Professor Dr. Wang Xingli

On March 22nd, SDU held an appointment ceremony for national distinguished visiting professor Dr. Wang Xingli. President Xu Xianming, Senior Vice-president Wang Qilong, Assistant President, Director of Human Resources Wang Jianmin and members of Prof. Wang s research team, Prof. Tang Dongqi and Prof. Cui Taixing attended the ceremony.

President Xu extended his warm welcome to Prof. Wang. He highly acknowledged Prof. Wang s academic achievement and expressed his delights in Prof. Wang s joining SDU and his confidence in Prof. Wang s contribution to SDU. He hoped SDU will seize the opportunity of the national Thousand Talents Scheme to recruit more talents from home and abroad. Prof. Wang expressed his gladness and appreciation for the confidence and support from SDU. He wished to transfer advanced foreign technology and ideas into SDU as soon as possible. President Xu granted Prof. Wang the certificate of National Distinguished Visiting Professor of the Thousand Talents Scheme

Prof. Wang was born in December1962 with American nationality. He is a tenured professor of Baylor College of Medicine and is one of the few scholars who specially studies the relationship between smoking and atherosclerosis. He established an animal model for smoking and discovered that smoking enhances risk factors for coronary heart disease related to the arterial eNOS genotype. The discovery proved the dependency of the gene phenotype of eNOS expression and regulatory effect of smoking. Therefore it showed the relationship between polymorphism of the candidate gene and coronary disease and opened up a new research field. Prof. Wang initiated oxidative stress genomics and found that the p53 oncogene is the target point of the human cytomegalovirus. He has published 135 papers in world acknowledged journals such as Nature, Medicine, Circulation and The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America.

The Oversea High-level Talents Introduction Policy (Thousand Talents Scheme) was issued and implemented by the Talents Administration Group of the Central Committee in December 2008. It aims at recruiting and supporting 2000 high-level scientists and talents for national key projects, national key disciplines, state key laboratories, national enterprises, state-owned financial institutions and the high-tech development zone in five to ten years. SDU will continue recruiting national distinguished visiting professors of the Thousand Talents Scheme .
