On February 22nd, German Ambassador to China Dr. Michael Schaefer and Canadian Ambassador to China Mr. David Mulroney visited SDU and attended the opening ceremony of The Ninth Chinese National Round for Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition organized by the Law School of SDU. President Xu Xianming met with the ambassadors and the delegation members. Prof.Tong Guangwu, Director of the International Office, Prof. Qi Yanping, Dean of the Law School, Prof. Ge Quan, Dean of the School of Political Science and Public Administration and Prof. Fang Hui, Deputy-Director of the Department of Academic Research also attended the meeting.

In the meeting with Ambassador Schaefer, President Xu said that SDU has an active cooperation and academic exchanges with German universities and the cooperation has benefited from the long established friendly province-state relationship between Shandong Province and the German State of Bavaria. President Xu proposed to further the cooperation with prestigious German universities and expected continuous support from the Germany government.

Ambassador Schaefer expressed that he would spare no effort to enhance cooperation between SDU and German universities. He warmly invited SDU to take part in a series of activities including German art exhibition held in China in April and Germany Culture Year in Germany next year. He suggested that located in the birthplace of Confucius, SDU could take this advantage to organize international seminars on civilization dialogues and he would encourage German scholars and researchers to attend such events.

In the meeting with Ambassador Mulroney, President Xu proposed to broaden cooperation and exchanges on the established basis and SDU would make greater efforts in enhancing student and scholar exchanges.

Ambassador Mulroney mentioned that one of the priorities of the Canadian Embassy this year is to promote educational exchanges and to encourage more Canadian students to study in China. Thus he would like to seek extensive cooperation between two sides. The Ambassador also explained cooperation between China and Canada in politics, medical treatment and public health, environment, energy and some other areas.

In the meetings with teachers and students from the Law School of SDU and the School of Political Science and Public Administration, the ambassadors communicated with them on issues of international law, international relations, bilateral relations between countries and some other issues.
