Sports and Outdoor Activities in Haidian 2007-12-07

Haidian District boasts the largest number of sports venues, the largest population engaging in physical exercises and the largest number of people swimming for exercise in all the counties and districts of Beijing. The district is blessed with numerous charming parks, hills and mountains, not far from the bustling downtown area, bestowing upon residents the ideal natural conditions for such outdoor activities as hiking and mountain climbing.

Haidian is the home of many large comprehensive sports venues and facilities, such as Haidian Sports Center, the Capital Stadium, Beijing Glorious Land, Xijiao Hotel, Golden Jade Tower, Daoxiang Lake Training Center, Shichuang Training Center, Jade Palace Hotel, Beijing Friendship Hotel, Beijing Language and Culture University and the Capital Institute of Physical Education, etc. There is a large golf course near the Fourth North Ring Road, with adequate facilities, sophisticated equipment and a beautiful natural environment. In 2002, 97 swimming pools of various types were opened to the public, including 28 swimming pools (in the hotels of three stars or better such as the five-star hotels of Jade Palace Hotel and Beijing Friendship Hotel). Liulang Swimming Pool, covering an area of over 10,000 mu (6,670,000 sqare meters), boasts clear water, a beautiful environment and sound management. There is an underground entertainment center of 5,000 square meters in the Century Golden Resources Hotel inside the Fourth West Ring Road with swimming, gymnastics and various ball games available.
