Malaysia and Indonesia bridge the gap

State authorities in Melaka, Malaysia plan to build the world s longest sea bridge connecting Melaka to Sumatra, Indonesia.

The plan is to construct a 48 kilometer bridge connecting Melaka to the island of Pulau Rupat, and a further 8 kilometer bridge connecting Dumai in Riau province on the Sumatran mainland, as reported in Travel Daily Asia. The project is estimated to cost US$12.8 billion and take 10 years to build. The project is yet to be approved by the Malaysian and Indonesian governments.
