Yamen Scenic Spot

Yamen Scenic Spot includes Yamen Ancient Battlefield, Guomu Palace, Yamen Emplacement and Yamen Bridge. Located in the marine outfall of Yinzhou Lake, eastern bank of Yamen, Xinhui District, Jiangmen City, is the ruined place Southern Song, where had happened Yamen Sea Fight which is the most solemn and stirring and the most famous event in the history.

  Yamen Emplacement was built in 1809 with steep position closely linked with Seaport of Yamen. The waves, just like mountainous waves, were beating on the shore when spring comes. This is a magnificent sight. Yamen Emplacement is beside the mountain and facing the sea, which assumes lunar shape, with 180-meter arc length, 5.5-meter height and 35-meter depth. It has two stories. There are 22 emplacements in the underlayer and 21 ones superlayer. There are there characters “Zhengya Platform” chiseled on its face. 

A stele with four Chinese characters “Yanhaifengqing” is on the nearside gate. There is a blind pass to trench of Back Mountain in the emplacement which is the biggest well-preservered monomer ancient emplacement with stately and imposing appearance. There were armies defending here who guarded coast defence, holy territory of our fatherland in the past dynasties. The anti-Japanese guerilla was against Japanese puppet army by the right of strategic place of Yamen Emplacement in the (China's) War of Resistance against Japan (1937-1945). The emplacement had been repaired for many times after the founding of our People’s Republic. Now there is a retiring room at the back of emplacement which offers tourists to have a rest. The towering ceiba in the emplacement is high in the air just like a hero who is safeguarding the sea defence.  Yamen Emplacement is the cultural and historic relic under Guangdong Province protection.

 There is megalith standing erect in the reaches of the river with huge volume and 3.3- meter height, which is in about 1.000 meters away from Jiangmen Bridge. Several lines of characters are chiseled on the megalith which record that the Song Emperor Shaodi and Prime Minister Lu Xiufu died here for their country. Southern Song was ruined here about 700 year ago.  In 1279 AD, the Yuan army invaded and occupied the capital of Southern Song (Lin’an). And the emperor Shaodi escaped to Yashan Mountain and founded the capital here. In 1279 AD, the Yuan army invaded again and divided into land and water lines to surround Yashan Mountain, and then they fought each other on the Yashan, and finally, Song army was completed collapsed by Yuan Army because of Yuan powerful army and its well preparation. The Prime Minister Lu Xiufu drove his wife and children to Yahai by sword and then jumped into the sea with 8-year-old Song Emperor Shaodi. The Song Dynasty disappeared in the history with the surging seawater.
