The Consumer Price Index (CPI) Increased in October

In October, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was up by 1.2% over the same period of the previous year, of which, urban area and rural area was up by 1.2% and 1.3% respectively; In view of different categories, the price of food, non-food, consumable, and services raised by 1.3%, 1.2%, 0.7% and 3.1% respectively. As compared with the last month, the CPI was up by 0.4%. The accumulative level of CPI from January to October was up by 1.9% as compared with the same period last year.

-- In view of the price of food was up by 1.3%, of which, grain was down by 0.8%, oil or fat and meat, poultry and their products, fresh eggs was down by 8.0%, 4.9% and 2.3% respectively, while that of aquatic products and vegetables was up by 4.4% and 17.5% respectively.

-- The price of tobacco, liquor and daily articles rose by 0.3%. Of which, the tobacco and liquor respectively increased 0.2% and 0.6%.

-- The price of clothing dropped by 1.1%. Of which, the price of clothes dropped by 1.3%.

-- The price of household equipment and maintenance service rose by 0.4%. Of which, consumer durables dropped by 0.5%, household service and maintenance service rose by 5.1%.

-- The price of medical care and personal articles was up by 0.6%. Of which, western medicine dropped by 1.7%, the traditional Chinese medicinal materials and medicine was down by 3.3%, while that of medical care service rose by 7.4%.

-- The price of transportation and communications dropped by 0.4%. Of which, price of vehicles dropped by 1.8%, while that of vehicle fuel and spares rose by 10.6%, that of using and maintaining of vehicle was up by 1.9%, that of urban transportation fee rose by 4.6%, and that of communication service dropped by 15.0%.

-- The price of recreational, educational and cultural articles rose by 1.3%. Of which, price of learning and baby-care rose by 3.6%, that of recreation rose by 2.9%, that of tourism and outgoing dropped by 0.7%, and that of consumer durables for recreation was down by 5.7%.

-- The price of articles related to dwelling was up by 4.8%. Of which, water, electricity and fuel, construction and decoration materials, and housing rent was respectively up by 6.6%, 2.7%, and 1.2%.
