Consumer Price Index Increased 1.9 Percent in January

In January, the general level of consumer prices over the same month of the previous year was up by 1.9 percent, of which, 2.0 percent up for urban areas, 1.7 percent up for rural areas. The prices of food was up by 3.6 percent, non-food was up 1.0 percent, consumables was up by 1.7 percent, services was up by 2.5 percent. If based on the previous month, the general level of consumer prices increased 1.3 percent compared with the last December.

In view of different categories, In January, the prices of food increased 3.6 percent over the same period of the previous year. Of which, grain up by 1.0 percent, greasedown by 5.9 percent, poultry and their productsdown by 4.6 percent, fresh eggsdown by 8.6 percent, aquatic products up by 4.1 percent, fresh vegetables up by 34.9 percent.

The prices for tobaccos, alcohols and daily articles were up by 0.2 percent. Of which, the prices for tobaccos no change, alcohols up by 0.4 percent.

The prices of clothing down by 1.6 percent. Of which, clothes down by 2.0 percent.

The prices for household appliances and services up by 0.6 percent. Of which, consumer durables down by 0.1 percent, household services up by 5.9 percent.

The prices for medical, health and personal articles up by 0.3 percent. Of which, western medicines down by 1.4 percent, the traditional Chinese medicinal materials and medicines down by 2.3 percent, medical and health services up by3.4 percent.

transportation and communications down by 0.5 percent. Of which, vehicles down by 2.0 percent, vehicle fuel and spares up by 11.1 percent, using and maintaining of vehicles up by 2.1 percent, Inter-cities transportation fee up by 7.5 percent; communication tools down by 17.8 percent.

Recreational, educational and cultural articles and services up by 0.9 percent. Of which, learning and baby-care up by 1.8 percent, Education and recreation fee up by 2.6 percent, Tourism up by 6.7 percent, recreational consumer durables down by 5.2 percent.

Housing up by 5.2 percent. Of which, water, electricity and fuels up by 8.4 percent, house construction and decoration materials up by 2.5 percent, house renting up by 0.6 percent.

Note: due to the Spring Festival factors, i. e., the last Spring Festival was February 9, the Spring Festival this year was January 29, So, the data of this January was incomparable with that of last January.
