Minister Han Changfu Meets with Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach

On May 18, 2010, Minister Han Changfu met with Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach and his delegation. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing agricultural cooperation.

Minsiter Han Changfu said that in the past 40 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Canada, the two countries had maintained stable bilateral ties, with great achievement in agricultural cooperation. Alberta, with significant agricultural power, was an integral part of agricultural cooperation between the two countries, thus it was important to enhance cooperation with Alberta.

Minister Han Changfu raised up several suggestions on agricultural cooperation with Alberta. He pointed out that the two sides should build on the existing cooperation and strengthen cooperation on animal husbandry production, agricultural processing, and quality and safety of agricultural products through personnel exchange, surveys, and trainings.

Premier Ed Stelmach fully agreed with Minister Han Changfu. He promised to press ahead with agricultural cooperation between Alberta, Canada and MOA, China, hoping to achieve a mutual-beneficial and win-win situation through concerted efforts. Premier Stelmach expressed his concern over the quarantine permits of blackleg disease of Canadian canola and the import of Canadian beef and pork to China. Minister Han Changfu explained and responded to Canadian guests on issues concerning the two sides.
