A New Delhi based company is on its way to relieving women from common skin diseases by means of a lingerie range called “Joy of Life”, infused and laced with soothing extracts of the abundantly available neem tree. The company already is selling shorts and t-shirts lased with extracts of neem and basil leaves which the company claims has a soothing effect on skin, smoothing out bumps and giving it greater elasticity.
The natural healing properties of neem are well-known among Asian consumers since centuries, more so in the Indian sub-continent where it is used to make soaps, shampoo, skin balms and cosmetics. The neem plant is supposed to help smooth away the embarrassing orange peel ¬appearance of cellulite caused by ¬enlarged fat cells under the skin in women and condition can get worse with age as the fat cells beneath the skin start to enlarge.
Speaking to Fibre2fashion, Mr Rajiv Rai Sachdev, Director of Advantage Organic Naturals, owners of the brand and the global patents of the process said, “Joy of Life range of lingerie is made from organic cotton dyed from herbs with medicinal properties alongside coatings of natural anti-bacterial such as Neem & Tulsi and also coated with Sericin a bio-extract of silk waste which is a natural moisture control agent.”
Explaining further he said, “Joy of Life products are evaluated in the laboratories of the Department of Textile Technology of IIT Delhi, as per international standard testing procedures such as AATCC-30 & AATCC-147 for anti-bacterial tests against Gram Positive Bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus & Gram Negative Bacteria Escherichia Coli, and showed excellent results and they are also processed with ‘natural moisture control’ skin friendly bio-proteins.”
When asked as to what sparked the idea to use extracts from the neem tree, he replied by saying, “We wanted to give our garments anti-bacterial & other skin-friendly treatments by using herbal dyes and without any toxic synthetic chemicals. We tried & tested many other herbal extracts in the labs of Textile Technology Department of IIT Delhi but found the combination of Neem & Tulsi gave optimum results, as per our expectations.”
