The persistent efforts ICBC has been making in many aspects such as improving corporate governance structure, enhancing corporate governance system building, perfecting "Shareholder Meeting, Board of Directors and Supervision Committee as well as Management" operation mechanism, strengthening risk management and internal audit and control system, elevating quality of information disclosure, boosting investor relationship management and fulfilling social responsibility have accelerated the constant lift of corporate governance and won the wide recognition of investors, supervisors and all strata in the society.
Recently, ICBC won "China Best Public Company Board" and Gold Award of "Best Corporate Governance Disclosure Awards" sponsored by authority organizations at home and abroad in 2008, as well as "Hong Kong Corporate Governance Excellence Awards" for two successive years.
According to introduction, as an award initiated by School of Business and Corporate Governance Research Center of Nankai University, "China Best Public Company Board" comprehensively appraises the corporate governance level of listed companies by independently objectively choosing indicators including six aspects: protecting rights and interests of shareholders, Board of Directors, Supervision Committee, management, information disclosure and stakeholders.
ICBC showed itself from a number of listed companies in the appraisal, becoming the only one large-sized commercial bank winner of "China Best Public Company Board" in the year of 2008.
"Best Corporate Governance Disclosure Awards" was founded by Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2000, aiming at encouraging and lifting the disclosure level and transparency of governance reports of companies listed in Hong Kong. Since founding, the award has obtained great support and high appraisal from Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, supervisors, business circles and professional institutions.
With great influence on capital market and business circles of Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific Region, "Hong Kong Corporate Governance Excellence Awards" was co-founded and organized by CHKLC and CCGFP of Hong Kong Baptist University, aiming at recognizing and praising the listed companies that have made commitments and obtained prominent achievements in protecting shareholder's rights, compliance, credit and honor, equity, responsibility, accountability, transparency, independence and leadership of Board of Directors as well as fulfilling corporate social responsibility. The fact that ICBC won "Corporate Governance Excellence Awards" again in 2008 after became one of the five winners of the award among over 1,000 companies listed in Hong Kong in 2007 fully demonstrated that the achievements of ICBC in corporate governance have been highly recognized by professionals, capital market and investors.
