The Banker magazine started the professional study on the competence of Chinese banks since 2003. From 2005 the magazine compiled the evaluation report every year. The just-released "2010 Evaluation Report on the Competence of Chinese Commercial Banks" was a result of nearly one year of massive on-site study using enhanced evaluation models. The competence ranking covered the core indexes on business management in a commercial bank in terms of development strategy, corporate governance, products and services, IT technology, risk management, human resources and market influence, etc. ICBC edged ahead of 16 nationwide commercial banks and sat on the top of the ranking for three years in a row.
