ICBC Enhances Quality of Asian Games Services with Multilingual Capabilities

Write: Bennett [2011-05-20]

With delegations from 45 Asian countries and regions, this year's Guangzhou Asian Games makes foreign language services the most wanted in the Asian Games Town crowded with foreign language speakers. In the Asian Games Town, there is a multi-language service team offering warm and caring services for guests from various Asian countries. They, the well-known "Stars" in the Asian Games Town, are the staffs working at the ICBC outlets in Asian Games Town.

On November 13 and 14, 2010, a total of eight technical officials from the Indian delegation exchanged traveler's cheques worth over USD 200,000 at the ICBC outlet in the Technical Officials' Village. Thanks to the smooth communication between the bank staff and customers, the deal was completed quickly. Indian technical officials were impressed by the staff's fluent English and professional skills and promised to the Manager that they would come back for the service by the same bank staff again three days later.

Guo Yiting is a Russian-speaking staff at the ICBC outlet in the Athletes Village. Every time athletes from Russian-speaking countries pop in the bank, they will ask for his assistance. Sometimes, when he is temporarily unavailable due to rotating shifts, they would rather wait until he returns. Despite the fact that they have no difficulty speaking English, they choose to converse freely with Yiting in their mother tongue out of a sense of "meeting old friends outside hometown".

Besides, in order to offer quality services for Korean-speaking customers, ICBC has three staffs transferred from the Yanbian branch to work in the three outlets in Asian Games Town. Today, these three staffs are famous for their Korean-speaking services and become the favorite "Chinese friends" of athletes, officials and media reporters from South Korea and DPRK.
