Building of CNPC's Qingdao Offshore Engineering Construction Base begins

On June 5, the foundations of Qingdao Offshore Engineering Construction Base of CNPC Offshore Engineering Co. Ltd were laid at a ceremony in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, attended by CNPC Vice-President Wang Yilin. Qingdao Offshore Engineering Construction Base is located in Haixi Bay of the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone, covering an area of 104 hectares with a total wharf coastline of 1,230 meters. Four wharfs with different tonnage will be built for the loading and unloading of materials, platform shipment and the docking of engineering vessels. It will have a block structure workshop and a tract structure workshop, achieving a total annual rolled steel processing capacity of 98,000 metric tons. The whole base will be completed and put into operation in 2009. It will be able to build production facilities for offshore oil and gas fields such as jacket platforms and pile-supported platforms, and will undertake land fabrication and the installation of other offshore fixtures, shipment and vessel docking.
