CNPC be prepared to deal with "quake lake" drainage

Write: Queenie [2011-05-20]
By June 5, Tangjiashan quake lake has stored more than 200 million cubic meters water. Once it is drained, the flux of the flood peak is estimated to exceed the designed maximum anti-flood capability of Lanzhou-Chengdu-Chongqing Pipeline. The pipeline is faced with the threat of being broken off.
Lanzhou-Chengdu-Chongqing Pipeline, China's only refined products pipeline to southwest regions, has an annual delivery capability of 6 million tons. 70% of refined products consumed by Sichuan Province and Chongqing City are supplied by this pipeline. If the trunk line was broken off by flood and couldn't be repaired to normal within three days, oil supply to Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou provinces and Chongqing City would be seriously affected, and the quake-hit areas in Sichuan would fall short of oil.
In order to handle the lake bursting, Jiang Jiemin, president of CNPC inspected the situation on site in person. CNPC has set emergency plans against the three critical points in Tangjiashan quake lake drainage and pays much attention to Fujiang River relief and the permanent pipeline construction. These actions ensure that the pipeline will restart operation in the shortest time in case of emergency.
