CAE Vice President Xu Rigan Attended Qinghai Green Economy Summit

The Qinghai Green Economy Summit was held in Xining, Qinghai on September 11, 2010, which was themed on "Green Economy From World to Qinghai". On behalf of Chinese Academy of Engineering, CAE Vice President Xu Rigan attended the opening ceremony and the presentation session held in the morning, This summit was organized by Qinghai Provin-cial People's Government, the State Council Development Research Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Chinese Acade-my of Engineering (CAE), the National Bureau of Statistics and the China Council for the Promotion of International Investment of the Ministry of Commerce jointly.

Mr. Qiang Wei, Qinghai Provincial Party Secretary, also the Director of the Standing Committee of Qinghai Provincial CPC, ad-dressed the opening ceremony. In his speech, Qiang emphasized that after years of practice for development, we have got to know that as China's important western ecological security shield, Qinghai should aim at achieving green development while preserving the ecological environment effectively, which is actually not only an inevitable tendency of social develop-ment, the necessary requirement to implement the Scientific Outlook on Development, the inexorable choice to promote the scientific de-velopment of Qinghai, but also where lies the fundamental well beings of the 5.

57 million people of all nationalities in the province. Qiang also said that, in order to achieve green development, Qinghai is determined to make great efforts to, first of all, establish the concept of green development in the province and make it known to its inhabitants, then build a green industrial system and advocate green mode of consumption.

Qinghai, according to Qiang, is also going to vigorously develop ecological agriculture and husbandry (farming industry), modern service industry, circular economy, new energy well as new materials industry, and so on. In the opening ceremony, Zhan Wenlong, Vice President of CAS read out the congratulation remarks by CAS President Lu Yongxiang, also the vice chairman of the Standing Committee of NPC.

On the subsequent forum, Luo Huining, Governor of Qinghai Province, Liu Yanhua, Consultant of the State Council, Xu Xianchun, Deputy Director of the National Bureau of Sta-tistics (NBS) and Pan Jiancheng, Deputy Di-rector of China Economic Monitoring Center delivered presentations entitled "Strengthening Ecological Protection and Construction of Three Rivers in Response to Global Climate Change", "Thoughts on Green Development Strategy", "Green Economy Development and Green Economy Accounting" and "On Green Economy Development Strategy of Qinghai Province " respectively.

Over 100 delegates from institutions of higher learning, research institutes, medium & large scaled enterprises, together with the me-dia home and abroad also attended the forum. Mr. Gao Yunlong, Deputy Governor of Qinghai Province, presided over the forum.
