Engineering Science and Technology Forum on "Digital Design and Innovation" Held in HUST

The 110th Engineering Science and Technology Forum of CAE -- "Digital Design and Innovation" was held in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on November 22, 2010. The Forum was hosted by CAE, and co-sponsored by the Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering Academic Division of CAE and HUST.

Zhou Ji, President of CAE, Li Peigen, Director of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering Academic Division of CAE, also President of HUST, Yang Yong and Shao Xinyu, both Vice Presidents of HUST, attended the forum. The forum was presided over by CAE Member Duan Zhengcheng and was attended by thirteen other CAE Members, Huang Xuhua, Zhou Qinzhi, Guan Qiao, Gu Guobiao, Liu Baicheng, Chen Yushu, Guo Chongqing, Liu Renhuai, Zhu Nenghong, Tang Renyuan, Yang Fengtian, Liu Yongcai and Zhang Jinlin, together with a total of more than 300 representatives from research institutes and institutions of higher learning.

Director Li Peigen expressed a warm welcome to academicians, scholars and experts, and all delegates in his speech. He pointed out that the world economic structure is undergoing a significant and profound adjustment. After the financial crisis, "Reindustrialization" was put forward by the world's major developed countries, and the trend of their returning to the status of strengthening industry is getting increasingly obvious, which squeezed the international market of developing countries.

At the same time, as the new technological revolution speeds up, the global economy is turning to low carbon economy, new energy and green econ-omy will become an important leading power guiding the future revolution in science & technology, as well as industry.

CAE President Zhou Ji made a report entitled "Thoughts on Innovation of a New Generation of Machinery Products with CNC Technology". He hoped that the promotion of CNC Technology application in machinery product innovation in all walks of life should be carried out in a well-organized and planned manner, and the quality of all sorts of machi-nery products should be improved through developing high-end CNC platforms, so that the overall innovation and upgrading of China s machinery products can be realized.

CAE Member Gu Guobiao made a report entitled "High-tech Industries Led by Innovation". CAE Member Chen Yushu gave a report entitled "Nonlinear Diagnosis Theory of Mechanical Dynamics Fault and Its Application ". Also, CAE Member Liu Baicheng reported on "Multi-disciplinary and Multi-scale Modeling and Emulation in Advanced Casting and Solidification Process".

CAE Memebr Guo Chongqing presented a report on "Service-oriented Manufacturing: New Opportunities for China's Manufacturing Industry to Raise Its Level". CAE Member Tang Renyuan gave a presentation entitled Technical Progress of Permanent Magnet Wind Driven Generator . In addition, CAE Member Liu Renhuai gave a report named "Stay Concerned about the World's Scientific and Technological Innovation Status, and Vigorously Promote the Innovative Cooperation among Enterprises, Universities and Research Institutes".

CAE Member Zhu Nenghong made the report "Design of Satellite Telescope". And CAE Member Guan Qiao made his presentation entitled "Special Welding / Connection Technology in Large Aircraft Manufacturing Engineering". What s more, a number of experts representatives from relevant fields also made presentations of their research findings on the forum respectively.

Professor Li Dequn from HUST reported on "Digitalization and Intelligentization of Plastic Injection Machine". Professor Lin Zhongqin, Vice President of Shanghai Jiaotong University, gave a report entitled "Digital Design of Complex Equipments". Professor Guo Dongming, Vice President of Dalian University of Technology, made a presentation on "High-Quality Parts Precision Processing Technology and Equipment".

Also, Professor Huang Song Deputy Chief Engineer of Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd reported on "Digital Design of New Transport Vehicles". Professor Sun Cong, Deputy Chief Engineer of Aviation Industry Corporation of China, made a presentation entitled "Digital Development Methods of Aircraft". Besides, Professor Hua Lin from Wuhan University of Technology, gave a report with the title "Research and Development of Precise CNC Rolling Equipments" and Professor Yin Zhouping from HUST made his presentation entitled "Research and Development of RFID Packaging Equipments.

A total of nine CAE Members and seven experts made sixteen high-level academic reports on the forum, in which the speakers made in-depth analysis and exploration of issues centered on the theme of digital design and innovation, from different perspectives and levels, and made many valuable comments and suggestions.

Director Li Peigen gave the concluding remarks of the forum, in which he, first of all, expressed his sincere gratitude for the "academic feast" provided by CAE Members as well as experts. Li then made a systematic summary and review of the presentations delivered at the forum. In the end, Director Li Peigen extended two of his hopes. Firstly he hoped that everybody should learn the valuable research experience, deep understanding capability and great thoughts from the academicians of older generation. Secondly, he hoped that the forum should be managed in an even better manner by the Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering Academic Division, so that the outstanding achievements and needs of enterprises in their engineering practice could be brought to the forum, and the "sparks of thought" that have emerged from the forum could be brought to engineering practice and hopefully, become a "prairie fire".
