CAS Releases 2009 Reports on Science and Society

The Chinese Academy of Sciences published three reports on Tuesday to provide government officials, management staff and the public with information about the latest scientific and technological achievements home and abroad. The 2009 Serial Reports on Sciences and Society include the Science Development Report, High Technology Development Report, and the Report of Sustainable Development of China.


The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) published three reports on Tuesday to provide government officials, management staff and the public with information about the latest scientific and technological achievements home and abroad.
The "2009 Serial Reports on Sciences and Society" include the Science Development Report, High Technology Development Report, and the Report of Sustainable Development of China.
CAS had been offering such annual reports to reflect China and world's development and progress for 12 years.
They also include a thorough analysis of China's high-tech policies and development strategy, and offered strategic thinking and proposals on how to promote science and technology and achieve a sustainable growth.
The Science Development Report covered latest updates on science, cutting edge technology and innovation policies. Scientists also offered views on resolving the bottleneck issues that hindered China's social-economic development through science and technology.
The theme of the High Technology Development Report is Biology. The report dealt with the up-to-date progress of biotechnology in 2009, its industrialization and pharmaceutics. Analysis on China's innovation ability and competitiveness in high-tech industry were also included.
Report of 2009 Sustainable Development of China explored ways to a low-carbon development pattern. It summed up the experience in pursuing a low-carbon economy and its implications to China. The report also predicted China's future in terms of energy, climate under different situations and pointed out the challenges and opportunities China's facing in converting to a low carbon economy. It concluded with the strategies, goals and road map in achieving a low-carbon development pattern with Chinese characteristics.
