Taiwan exhibit area at 13th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT)
At the second preparatory meeting of the 14th China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), Ye Shuangyu, the deputy director and secretary-general of the organizing committee, vice governor of Fujian province said, "Taiwan's enthusiasm for its participation in CIFIT and its cooperation efforts are higher than the previous years. If our preliminary work has been done well, it will greatly promote this year's cross-strait economy and trade."
He said, "Under the leadership of the Ministry of Commerce and with the support of the member units, we have successfully held 14 sessions of the CIFIT and the Tourism Expo has also been running consecutively for several years. CIFTI has been a large platform of commerce and trade between Taiwan and mainland China. Each year, about 5,000 businessmen with ever improving quality come from Taiwan. More are said to be coming this year."
Ye also introduced six great opportunities brought by this year's CIFIT:
I. Temporary Overall Rebound in Global Economy. After the financial crisis, the situation of the international economy has greatly changed and thus brings us opportunities. The international capital is seeking a way out and more people are making cross-border investment which is very different from the financial crisis era of last year. There is no doubt that difficulties and changes still exist in some areas around the globe; however, as a whole, things look better with the international industrial structure speeding up adjusting and upgrading. Therefore, CIFIT is offering us an international platform which is also a measure of our opening up.
II. Sustained, Rapid and Stable Development of China's Economy Raises the Level of Opening Up. Our attractiveness to global capital including China's global influence has been greatly enhanced. Our influence on the world economy has also been improved significantly. Throughout the year, our country has published many significant decisions, plans and policies which help to improve the level of opening up and promote the development of open economy. In addition, we also carried out a number of multilateral and bilateral cooperation mechanisms on trade and economy which is a very favorable opportunity for us. With the world focusing on China, we get a rare opportunity to hold the CIFIT as well as our opening up.
III.Expediting the Transition of the Way to Develop Our Economy. It's the central government's decision. Many provinces and cities are now making plans that will promote newly-born industries, including service trade. CIFIT also faces the change from a manufacturing industry in the general field to a new, high-end industry. Many exhibitions and projects have reflected this.
IV. The regional development strategies has been updated to a national strategy under the special attention of the central government as well as the state council. Thanks to the launch and enhancement of a series of measures by the state council this year, there have been more than 10 regional developmental strategies across the country, including the west coast economic region development strategy of Fujian.. The conference also proposed some specific policies.
V. Provinces, Cities and Autonomous Regions are Organizing the "12th Five-year" Plan. Facing both the 11th Five-ear Plan and the 12th Five-year Plan, the CIFIT influences the development of regional economy of not only this and next year, but also of the next five years or even a longer period.
VI. The Shanghai Expo has been bringing potential opportunity for Fujian. A lot of foreign political VIPs, business guests and representatives of economic organizations have come, to Shanghai, making China a more popular place. We have been worried about the shortage of business guests which turns out to be unnecessary. Now what we need is an abundance of efficient and high-quality businesspersons.
