Meranti will bring heavy rainfall to Zhejiang

The 10th tropical storm Meranti , which formed at 5 a.m. in the south off the coast of Heng Chun, Taiwan, on Sept, 8 and had strengthened to be a severe tropical storm at 14 p.m.. It s learned from the Office of Zhejiang Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters that the emergency response mechanism for a category 4 typhoon was initiated at 18 p.m. Sept.9.

Meranti was located around 118.9 degrees East Longitude, 22.7 degrees North Latitude, with the wind force of 10 at 18 p.m. on Sept.9. The storm was moving towards the coastal areas of Guangdong, Fujian at a speed of 15 km per hour and it is gaining strength and will make a landfall in the coastal areas from the night of Sept. 9 to the noon of 10.

It s estimated by the Provincial Meteorological Department that it will be cloudy in the southern and central and western part of Zhejiang and then it will have a shower or rainstorm, and heavy rains to downpour in partial areas under the impact of the external tropical storm and the inverted trough. From Sept.9 to 10, there will be a strong gale to storm along the nearby areas hit by the eye of the storm.
