December 21 saw the 110th anniversary of Zhejiang Library.
In 1900, Zhejiang Library was founded as Hangzhou Books Collection Pavilion, the first public library and the earliest provincial-level public library in China, on the site of Dongcheng Lecture Hall by Caishi Bridge in Hangzhou by Shao Zhang, a famous educator, bibliographer and calligrapher in Zhejiang Province.
With over a century s vicissitudes, Zhejiang Library has ranked a top large-scale modern library in the country. Currently, the library consists of 4 branches, namely the General Library on Shuguang Road, the Gushan Road Branch, the Daxue Road Branch, and Jiaye Books Collection Pavilion in Nanxun, Huzhou. The library boasts a collection of 5.4 million books, and is a treasure house of culture and knowledge that readers have heavily relied on.
