The Standing Committee of the Municipal People s Congress held a briefing on December 21 where Guangzhou Mayor Wan Qingliang reported on the work completed by the city government in 2010. According to Mayor Wan, the city's GDP this year surged 12.6 percent to 942.9 billion RMB, indicating that the city is on track to become a city with an annual GDP in excess of a trillion RMB. Mayor Wan also revealed that construction had begun on 40,000 government-subsidized apartments with a gross floor area of 3 million square meters.
