Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region Chui Sai On on Saturday afternoon.
During the meeting, Wen said since the inauguration of the third-term government nearly a year ago, the whole situation in Macao was exciting, with stable social and economic developments and improved living standards.
Wen said the central government will continue to unswervingly implement the principles of "one country, two systems," "Macao people governing Macao"with a high degree of autonomy and the Basic Law, and give full support to the chief executive and the government of Macao SAR in boosting development in Macao.
Referring to the 12th Five-Year Plan proposal, Wen said regional cooperation among Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macao will be an important part of the plan, in which the role and function of Hong Kong and Macao in the nation's comprehensive development strategy will be further clarified.
Wen expected Macao to grasp the opportunities to achieve diverse economic development, which will help lay firm foundation for long-term prosperity in Macao.
Kicking off his two-day visit in Macao Saturday morning, Wen has attended the opening ceremony of the third Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries, at which he delivered a keynote speech.
Later in the day, Wen will meet high-level officials of the Macao government.
