Guangzhou Mayor Wan Qingliang met with Hong Kong Trade Development Council President Lam Tin-fuk on December 17, to expand trade between the cities and build a CBD for the Asia-Pacific region and a link between the two cities' convention and exhibition industries.
Mayor Wan stated that Guangzhou and Hong Kong enjoy geographic proximity, cultural affinity, and solid economic ties. In the first 10 months of this year, trade between the two cities surged 39 percent to reach nearly 11 billion USD.
Mayor Wan also said that Guangzhou will draw upon Hong Kong's experience as an international business center to transform its means of growth and speed up its efforts to establish the city as a central national city and a global metropolis. Guangzhou will also take advantage of Hong Kong as a gateway to the international market.
Guangzhou, a millennium-old capital of commerce and the host city of the international recognized Canton Fair, enjoys infinite potential in teaming up with Hong Kong to build a CBD for the Asia-Pacific region and a link between the two cities' convention and exhibition industries.
