Price hikes, salaries and the gap between the wealthy and the poor are hot topics in the ongoing Guangdong Committee of CPPCC annual sessions. The new session which closed on January 24 had a total of 999 members in attendance.
The residents' income increase is far from that of commodities price and housing price, according to Lu Daxiang, a committee member of CPPCC, who suggested raising workers' salaries.
CPPCC member Chen Gangjun advised government officials to raise personal income taxes and build a stable salary increase system, to connect the GDP index and CPI increases with that of social wages.
The Democratic Alliance of Guangdong Province proposed to adjust the mechanism for income distribution. Other proposals being discussed include raising social security funds, offering more direct financial subsidies to low-income peasants, such as agricultural restructuring subsidies, subsidies of new technological application and promotion, agricultural insurance benefits and natural disasters subsidies.
