Prices for domestic tours fell 30 percent compared with the Spring Festival holidays, which ended last Tuesday, according to local travel agencies.
The costs of tours to Hainan Province, a popular domestic destination, fell by a maximum of 53 percent, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported on February 10. The OCT Travel Agency charged only 2,250 RMB (341 USD) for a tour to Sanya in Hainan on last week, 43 percent lower than during the holidays.
However, price falls of popular tours to places in South China such as Yunnan and Zhangjiajie were more moderate, according to the Shenzhen Overseas Travel Agency.
Prices of outbound tours also fell.
The cost of tours to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand dropped 50 percent, according to China Travel Service (Shenzhen), which charged 2,000 RMB for a five-day tour to Thailand, less than half the holiday rates. A tour to the Maldives costs between 7,000 and 10,000 RMB compared with 30,000 RMB during the holidays.
