Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Chui Sai On said Saturday (Aug 28) that he expects the SAR to enhance its relationship and cooperation with Taiwan.
Chui made the comments at the ongoing 6th Pan Pearl River Delta (PPRD) Regional Cooperation and Development Forum in Fuzhou, capital of southeast China's Fujian Province. The forum runs from Aug 27 to 31.
"Strengthening economic and trade ties as well as cultural exchanges between Macao and Taiwan will be one of the major tasks for the SAR government this year," Chui said.
Discussing ways to boost economic and cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Strait is a key focus of the forum, he added.
Talking about the SAR's relationship with the PPRD, Chui said Macao would deepen cooperation with the delta region in the hope of realizing more balanced and sustainable development.
The pan-Pearl River Delta region covers the provinces of Hainan, Yunnan, Hunan, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Fujian, Sichuan, Guizhou, as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions are also included.
