The government of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) sealed three local premises that were suspected of providing illegal accommodation during Spring Festival holiday, the Cross-departmental Working Team of Macao SAR announced Monday (Feb 7).
Five people were taken away for further investigation, according to the cross-departmental working team.
The SAR's law on "Prohibition of Providing Illegal Accommodation" took effect on Aug. 13 last year. Under the law, operators and persons who manage the premise that provide accommodation illegally incur a penalty up to 800,000 patacas (100,000 U.S. dollars), touts can be fined up to 100,000 patacas (12,500 dollars) and occupants who fail to cooperate are fined 3,000 patacas (375 dollars).
