On the afternoon of September 30th, Dr. Harold M. Maurer, president of University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), U.S., was conferred honorary professor of our university. The appointment ceremony was held at Run Run Shaw Building. Our president Pei Gang awarded Dr. Maurer the certificate of Tongji University honorary professor and put on Tongji badge for him. Dr. Maurer gave a presentation entitled Building First-class Medical Center in the 21st Century for our teachers and students.
Later, Pei Gang talked with the UNMC delegation and briefed international cooperation in Tongji, especially focusing on the reform of engineering education and the expectation for deepening international cooperation and reform in the field of medical education. Maurer introduced UNMC and his story between Tongji and himself. He felt proud of being invited by our university and would continue to promote and deepen bilateral cooperation.
Dr. Maurer is a leading clinical scientist and an expert on rhabdomyosarcoma. Under his leadership, UNMC has made considerable progress on education, scientific research and clinical research. Currently, our university and UNMC have been carried out varied cooperation programmes including short-term student exchanges.
