On March 23, eve of World Tuberculosis Day (March 24), world-renowned pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly & Co. announced in Shanghai an increase of US$50 million to the MDR-TB project, in order to prevent the expansion of TB globally. At the same time, Eli Lilly's Chinese partner HISUN Pharmaceutical announced that as part of the said project, studies in product stability and updating of pharmaceutical and administrative documents for "Capreomycin" which was supplied gratis by Eli Lilly via technological transfer, was successfully completed during the first quarter in 2007.
These developments signify a new chapter in global anti-tuberculosis efforts.
