Bai Hua, President of Hisun Pharmaceuticals, recently received an appeal letter. The writer's younger brother, Qi Haibo, was suffering from chronic myelocytic leukemia. Their farmer parents had resorted to selling their family house and borrowed money just to raise RMB 200,000. It was mentioned that with Qi's monthly treatment costing a hefty RMB 24,000, the family had run out of money. However there was good news: the bone marrow of two donors was found to match that of the patient; unfortunately, the bad news was that a bone marrow transplant operation would cost as much as RMB 600,000. Any hopes of survival would be dashed if the operation's expenses could not be raised before the deadline.
Bai was decisive in his instructions when he read the letter. On August 4th, he sent his staff to present the patient with RMB 50,000. While holding back tears, the elder sister said: "We have been fortunate to have so many kind-hearted people caring for us. As of today, we have received donations from companies and individuals amounting to RMB 300,000. We will try our best to repay society for this kindness."
