Annual passenger throughput of Capital Airport Exceeds 70 million today

At 08:10pm, December 9th, 2010, an Australian passenger Mr. Li received a surprise on Flight CA975 from Beijing to Singapore. Capital Airport staff presented him a Chinese style red scarf, congratulating him as the 70 millionth passenger in 2010. It indicates that the annual passenger throughput of BCIA has officially exceeded 70 million, ranking the second place among airports in the world.

Based on its current capacity, the annual passenger throughput is expected to reach 74 million in 2010, which indicates that the Capital Airport has made a great progress on the way towards a large international hub airport.

As the leader in China s civil aviation industry and a model of the development of the civil aviation industry of the world, Capital Airport has been keeping a steady and rapid growth during the period of 11th Five-Year Plan period and achieved rapid growth in annual passenger throughput, with a breakthrough of 50 million in 2007 and 60 million in 2009, ranking the third place in the world. In 2010, the annual passenger throughput hit 70 million, ranking the second place in the world. Capital Airport s rapid development has come as a great surprise to the world.

Guanghui Zhang, general manager of Beijing Capital International Airport Holdings Co., Ltd (BCIA) , has expressed to the press: a breakthrough of 70 million is a milestone to the Capital Airport. On one hand, it means capital airport has become an epitome of China Speed which shows to the world that China is striding forward from a large civil aviation nation to a powerful civil aviation nation; on the other hand, it shows capital airport will be facing more pressure and challenges.

In recent years, capital airport has made it clear that its strategic goal is to become a large international hub airport in 2015, The company has been carrying the strategy out and improving the overall service quality of the airport under the guidance of advocating China Service, building an international hub .

Therefore, Capital Airport has been making all efforts to improve its competitive strength from various aspects , such as perfecting its operation system, improving hub operation efficiency, optimizing processes and simplifying procedures, updating the hub service functions, promoting strategic marketing and expanding the hub service network.

Especially after the founding of Operation Coordination Management Committee , Capital Airport has been working closely together with ATC (air-traffic control) and airlines to build an air-ground integrated operation pattern, to optimize the air-ground operational process and shorten the taxing time of airplanes on the runway.

Therefore, the overall operating efficiency of the airport has been improved and the process of constructing an international hub has been accelerated.

Currently, Capital International Airport covers the widest domestic air route network and an expanding international air route network including 116 domestic destinations and 85 international destinations. Everyday, 1400 scheduled flights from more than 70 airlines with 200,000 passengers from all over the world are taking off or landed at the capital airport.

Along with the increase of passenger throughput and operation support capacity, Capital Airport also commits itself to promoting the passenger service quality. In March 2007 before the operation of Terminal 3, Capital Airport declared 15 service promises, accepting supervision of the public. Before the Beijing Olympics, Capital Airport again announced 18 service promises, continuing to upgrade its service quality.

In the past 3 years, Capital Airport worked with all the residing units of the airport to face challenges, accepted supervision from public, and fulfilled their promises, and received appraise from society and passengers. According to ACI (Airports Council International) survey results, the satisfaction degree of the Capital Airport increased year by year, ranking 4th among airports around the world and became the first Skytrax Four-star Airport in Mainland China.

In order to further improve service quality and implement the Regulations on the Managements of Civil Airport , Capital International Airport Holdings Co., Ltd, together with all the residing units of the airport, took the lead in the industry to sign Passenger Service Criterions , and on this basis, announced 25 service promises to accept public s supervision.
