The Asteroid No. 120569, which was discovered by researchers from National Astronomical Observatories at CAS (NAOC), has been named after Prof. HUANG Runqian, a CAS astronomer with the Yunnan Observatory, NAOC, with the approval of the International Minor Planet Nomenclature Committee. The naming ceremony was held on 17 December in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.
This is to recognize the outstanding contribution of Prof. Huang, a CAS Member, to China's astronomical undertakings. Graduated from Schiller University in Germany in the 1950s, Huang have been contributed to the studies of star structures and evolution by establishing several theories, including those of non-conservative evolution of massive binary systems with mass and angular momentum losses.
