July 5, 2008, Mr. Zhu Ying, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, addressed his lecture on TBEA UHV new power equipments release conference, he approved of the research of TBEA UHV power equipments firmly, and he point out that this series of power equipments deserve the world -class products.
Mr. Zhu Ying said: First of all, I extend my warm congratulation to TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group for the success of 1000kV transformers research, which is a significant event for the revitalization of national industry, State Grid Corporation put priority onto UHV research, as a result, the UHV construction units and the experts workgroup were set up, and I was recommend to act as the chief of the experts workgroup, so I also extend my warm congratulation to TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group on behalf of the experts workgroup.
Recent years, in order to ease the power supply shortage, installed power generation capacity grew for years, annual installed power generation capacity climbed at an average rate of ten million kilowatt, but it turned out to fail to satisfy the people in need of electricity across China, moreover, certain cities had to switch off in summer so as to impose limits on power consumption. In this case, much of government attention were drawn to improvement of power sector, based on elastic coefficient of electric energy, growth rate of power industry should correspond to the rate of GDP, it is the problem which the government gear up to solve all the time, up to now, annual installed power generator capacity grew at a rate of ten million kilowatt which is as ten times fast as the past and five times bigger than the size of installed power generation capacity of Three Gorges.
With the success of 1000MVA/1000kV transformers, we can realize extreme high-efficiency power transmission, a combination of three transformers can transmit the power generated by four sets of generators in Three Gorges, so six set of 1000MVA/1000kV transformers can transmit the total power generated by Three Gorges., not only ultra capacity but also ultra voltage level is obtained. The major national power transmission projects, such as the Power Transmission from West to East, can convey electricity to somewhere several thousand kilometer away, so the UHV power transformers as backbone equipments can realize long distance power transmission by reducing transmission loss,. We can not provide the solution to nationwide power shortage without the UHV transformers, the commissioning and operation of this batch of electric equipments can dramatically relieve the pressure from nationwide power shortage.
In future, China will erected two Three Gorges sized hydropower plants in the upper parts of Jinshajiang river, namely, Xiangjiaba Dam and Xiluodu Dam with application of the DC power transmission, the research of the shunt reactor as key equipments required in those two dams has been completed by TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group. Yesterday we inspected and appraised the design schemes of the 800kV converter transformer, all of us approved firmly the scheme.
Former Soviet Union and Japan ever attempted to build 1000kV transmission lines, but it failed to operate properly for some reasons, China is abundant in power generation resources and has board power consumption markets, but we face the problem of low power transmission efficiency due to lack of the quality power transformation and transmission equipments, nowadays the application of 1000MVA/1000kV transformers can keep 600 kilometer transmission lines from Shanxi to Jinmen operating at full load of 1000 kV voltage level. The difficulties associate with the R&D of 1000MVA/1000kV transformers can be suggested by the demanding condition of project initiation, high level of research risks are involved, the power equipments of TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group get approval of experts without any doubts, the execution of the projects are going to play a significant role in long distance power transmission, implementation of the 11th National Five Year Plan and the 12th National Five Year Plan
The technical demand for this set of power equipments can be easily identified, compared with the power equipments in Japan, one set of power equipments can fulfill the same functions as two sets of Japanese power equipments, obviously the technical barriers are by far much than that of Japan. At the same time, we also conducted technical innovation, namely the low voltage parts of transformer remains the same after voltage regulation, it provides solutions to world-class technical barriers. the voltage of the world s largest DC converter transformer in Brazil is up to 600kV which is much lower than TBEA s 800kV shunt reactor in term of voltage level, the largest capacity transformer at 750 kV are of TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group independent innovation which deserve the world-class power equipments. Experts units praised highly for independent innovation capabilities of TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group, in particular, integrated innovation abilities represented in a variety of power equipments for 1000 kV power transmission system, the application and modification of imported technology.
We just initiated the construction of the Mega Kilowatt Power Equipments, a dozen of 1000 kV transmission lines are planed to be built. As a member of the experts work group sponsored by the State Grid Corporation, I expect TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group to successfully complete research assignments for the first set of 1000 kV transformers with the success of the first 1000 kV transformer, in addition, to provide solution to the transportation of such a large transformer, I am confident in TBEA ability to solving those problems.
Mr. Wu Zhirong, the director of Power Science and Technology Institute of State Grid Corporation, made his comments. After inspection on experiments over the past couple of days, although we ran into some problems arisen from difficult nature of experiments, I assumed that the comprehensive performances of transformer are excellent. Finally we removed all of difficulties by joint efforts of the experts and technical personnel.
Mr. Gao Xingyao, the technical specialist of TBEA, made his comments. Transformers with such high voltage level plus large capacity are exceptional to TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group, even to China transformer industry, precious experience and knowledge are acquired in the transformer industry in the world, we must well-prepare for assignment of another series of transformer R&D in an attempt to accomplish the success of UHV transformers in all aspects.
Mr. Li Guangfan, the assistant to dean of China Electric Power Research Institute, made his comments. You went through very hard time in the course of UHV power equipments, but we have a very good ending, the partial discharge is almost zero under the experimental condition which is 1.5 times stringent than normal experimental condition, as you know it is not easy to get such a good result. It is a technical stride to both TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group and Chinese manufacturing sector.
Mr. Wanda, the expert from Jiangsu Power Experiment Institute made his comments, All performances of the first UHV transformer researched by TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group demonstrated in the test are very well except the flaw of the imported tube, but we solved all problems by joint efforts of UHV construction unit, management of TBEA and experts,. In addition we came to some conclusion that firstly the difficulties of heat transfer which is unknown to us has been removed, secondly as for specific problems related to the UHV transformer, we can provide solutions to most of them. Exploring scientific research is endless and there are a lot for us to do in term of structure of power equipments, we are able to solve any problem provided that we can make joint efforts, the success story of TBEA transformer research can share valuable experiences with other transformer manufacturers in China..

Mr. Chen Weijiang, the deputy director of the UHV construction division of State Grid Corporation, made his comments. It is very impressive today because the first 1000kV single transformer in China, and even in the world has been produced at TBEA Shenyang Transformer Group the very moment that it passed the partial discharge test, 00:16, this morning! The discharge amount of terminal is less than 20 PC with the voltage which 1.5 times higher than the rated voltage, the trial transformer has already shown very well in the various stringent routine tests, besides the trial transformer has pass through experiments demonstrations on operational impulse, lightning impulse and insulation, I am hereby to thank the TBEA workgroup for their hard-working and a lot of energy paid in UHV research assignments on behalf of State Grid Corporation.
