Wang Rulin met with Lukan Chihiro

March 17, Governor Wang Rulin met with Managing Executive Director and China chief representative of Japanese Marubeni Corporation and Chairman of Japanese Chamber of Commerce in China Lukan Chihiro and his party at Changchun Shangri-La Hotel.

Wang Rulin on behalf of the provincial party committee and government welcomed the arrival of Lukan Chihiro and his party, and expressed on behalf of Jilin people his condolences to them and to the people of Japan in the disaster areas through them, but also briefly introduced the situation of Jilin Province.

He said that China and Japan is "a narrow strip of water" with each other, and have a long history of friendly exchanges. Recently, the waters off northeastern Japan suffered a magnitude 9 earthquake, which triggered a huge tsunami and caused serious casualties and property losses, Jilin people are very concerned about and deeply worried about the situation.

Wang Rulin said in recent years, Jilin Province has expanded trade and economic exchanges with Japan, and Japan is an important source of foreign investment to our province. At present, the number of Japanese companies investing and developing in Jilin Province and investment amount are among the forefront of the countries and regions investing in our province.

The number of overseas-funded enterprise and total actual use of foreign capital respectively rank No. 3 and No. 6 among the 63 countries and regions investing in our province. Japan is also an important trading partner of our province. As a large multinational group integrating international trade, investment and financing, transportation and real estate development into one and a Fortune 500 company, Marubeni Corporation of Japan actively develops trade with China, and established branch office in our province in May 2005 to mainly engage in import and export of chemical products and food import and export.

Both sides have a good basis for cooperation, and have a great room and broad areas for cooperation.

Wang Rulin hoped it would establish a cooperative institution in Changchun, China Association of Enterprises take the lead, and Japanese Chamber of Commerce in China and South Korean Chamber of Commerce in China organize the Japanese and South Korean large enterprises to establish the Northeast Asian major enterprise headquarters alliance in Changchun; Marubeni Corporation of Japan would participate in the comprehensive development and construction of Changchun City and the province s other cities, the Changchun-Jilin integration project construction, the construction of Jilin Hunchun Japanese Industrial Park, strengthen cooperation in chemical industry, participate in the construction of Jilin Chemical Industrial Park, carry out cooperation in the field of agricultural products processing, and pragmatically promote the food processing project. Jilin Province will actively create conditions and make every effort to provide service for Marubeni Corporation of Japan to invest in Jilin, to achieve common development.

Lukan Chihiro on behalf of Marubeni Corporation of Japan thanked Wang Rulin for his meeting and Jilin Province for its cordial condolence to the Japanese people in disaster areas. He said it would look for new opportunities to increase investment and actively explore the market, and strengthen cooperation in more areas with Jilin Province on the current basis, to achieve greater development.
