Hundreds of scholars and corporate representatives gathered at NUPT's Sanpailou campus on October 27th for the 2010 National Forum on Technological Standardization of Ubiquitous Network & Internet of Things and the Jinling (Nanjing) Forum on Application Standards of Internet of Things. Sponsored by CCSA (China Communication Standardization Association), Nanjing Municipal Government and Jiangsu Committee of Economics and Informatization, the forum marked another significant event NUPT has held in the field after the Nanjing Forum on Internet of Things.
The Forum began on time at 8:30. Attendants at the opening ceremony included many leading scholars high-ranking officials from the regulatory institutions and local government, as well as high-level corporate executives.
Professor Min Chunfa, Party Secretary of NUPT, presided over the opening ceremony and the signing ceremony of cooperation agreement for the Jinling Forum on Application Standards of of Internet of Things. Professor Min, on behalf of NUPT as well as the sponsors of the forum, expressed gratitude to those who have helped to make this event a success. Min pointed out that the Jinling Forum aimed to establish China's own system of application standards for Internet of Things, and by doing so help establish China's Internet of Things industry as a bellwether in the international arena.
Wen Ku, Director of Science and Technology Office under the Ministry of Industry and Informatization, first conveyed in his speech to the forum the gist of Chinese President Hu Jintao's talk at a conference for fellows of the two academies (China Academy of Science & China Academy of Engineering) . He then pointed out that the work of standardization must first and formost have a sound top design and solid research on critical technologies as well as the internationaliztion of standards is also essential. He hoped that CCSA would enhance cooperation with Jiangsu to boost the development of Ubiquitous Network in the loca area.
NUPT President Yang Zhen said China's Internet of Things is yet to mature in technology, standardization and security, and patentization, standardization and internationalization of technolgoiestechnologies is no less urgent than anything else. He breifed the audiences on the explorations NUPT has made in the area and hoped the forum would work out solutions to the bottlenecks in the development of Internet of Things.
Zhang Xinnian, an official with the Nanjing Municipal Government spoke highly of the forum, and introduced Nanjing's advantges in the research and application of Internet of Things and the efforts Nanjing Municipal Government has made to boost the emerging industry since the previous forum.
Zhou Baoxin, Vice Chairman of CCSA, pointed out that solid work in standardization, breakthroughs in crucial technologies such as censors, lowered cost and enhanced security, as well as proper handling of the relationship between application and stanadardzation are all key to the development of Internet of Things.
Wu Hequan, Secretary-General of Chian Academy of Engineering and counsel for Nanjing's economic and social development, introduced in his speech a variety of supporting technologies and a number of common systems of standardization.
The oepning ceremony also saw the signing a four-party cooperation agreement between Jiangsu Committee of Economics and Informatization, Nanjing Committee of Economics and Informatization, CCSA and NUPT.
After the opening ceremony, Zhou Baoxin, Vice Chairman of CCSA delivered a keynote speech titled "Development Strategies for The Application and Standardization of Internet of Things." Speeches on a variety of topics were given by experts including Xu Heyuan, Chief Engineer of Communications Standardization Institute under the Ministry of Industry and Informatization, Zhu Hongbo, Vice President of NUPT, Wang Xiang, Vice President of ZTE, and Chen Yiquan, Vice President of HUAWEI.
A seperateseparate forum on the application standardization of Internet of Things was held in the afternoon. A variety of key topics were covered in the speeches by guest speakers. In order to have in-depth discussion, the forum set up five workshops respecitvely covering intelligient transport and logistics; intelligientintelligent power network and industry; intelligientintelligent houseworking and public security; intelligigient disaster prevention and farming.
Many teachers and students of NUPT attended the forum.
