The opening ceremony of 2008 graduate students of professional degrees was held at Eastern Gymnasium on the afternoon of Feb. 28.

ZHU Min, Vice President and dean of SCUT Graduate School, introduced to the fresh students the history and the teaching & research status of the University. Prof. ZHANG Yao, the teacher representative from the School of Electric Power, congratulated the new-comers and wished them fruitful studies. LIU Jianbin, director of the bidding management center, Shaoguan Steel Group, now a 2008 engineering master's degree candidate in the School of Business Administration, and LIANG Xiaoming, deputy dean of Guangzhou Standardization Graduate School, now a 2007 master's degree candidate of Engineering Program in the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, gave an address on behalf of the fresh and the second-year students respectively.

After that, Prof. LI Zhong, executive deputy dean of SCUT Graduate School, gave a guidance speech to help the new-comers begin their college life.

In 2008, SCUT has enrolled 1,233 students for professional degrees, including 1,010 in the master of engineering program, 85 in the master of public administration program, 40 in the master of landscape architecture program, 48 in the master of business administration program, and 50 in the master of jurisprudence program.
