The final of the 33rd ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC World Final) was held at the library of KTH Royal University of Technology, Stockholm the capital city of Sweden, from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on April 21 of Beijing time, and 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on April 21 of the local time of Stockholm. Under the leadership of Mr. HUANG Han, a teacher from the School of Software (SE), the team representing SCUT comprised of LIU Hailang from SE, LI Zhiwei from the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, and WU Yuanhao from the School of Computer Science and Engineering entered the final competition. After five hours of heated contest, the team ranked the 13th among universities from all over the world and the 3rd among Asian universities, earning their first bronze medal of ACM-ICPC World Final.

It is known that ACM-ICPC World Final is considered as the highest-level computer programming contest and the "Olympics" in the field of information technology. The 100 participating teams of this year were selected among 7,109 teams from 1,838 universities in 88 countries of 6 continents, and only 13 were qualified to win the medals, including 4 golden medals, 4 silvers and 5 bronzes.
These three participating students of SCUT have been receiving closed training at the ACM laboratory of SE ever since their successful promotion to the final competition of ACM-ICPC in November of last year. Their hard work finally got paid off. It is said that this is the first time for SCUT to enter the ACM-ICPC World Final and to win a medal.
