Pakistan: Minister assures textile units of carbon credits

Federal Minister for Environment, Hamidullah Jan Afridi Tuesday said that he will arrange a meeting of textile associations and other concerned stakeholders with the Prime Minister to ensure that environment friendly units may get carbon credits.
Talking to media during his visit to 6th Textile Asia at Karachi Expo Centre here, he said that the government was committed to give maximum relief to the environment friendly industries by providing additional resources via carbon credit.
He urged the industrial associations to send him the proposals regarding carbon credits.
Replying to a question, Afridi said that the federal government can withdraw certain powers of Provincial Environmental Protection Agencies for their inability to implement environmental laws.
He said that purpose of his visit to Textile Asia was to get an input from textile sector as how they could be facilitated by the environment ministry. He also visited various stalls and appreciated the quality and innovation made in relevant technology.
