The trends for Fall-Winter 2009-2010 will be the stars at the 95th MIPEL (March 4-7, 2009) in a study of forms, colors and materials on exhibit in four absolutely original and promising macro-areas.
The first, and also the most explored, will be “A wonderful world”, borrowing all the possible hues of chocolate: brown in all its many manifestations from the darkest pure chocolate to warm toffee tones.
“Mouth-watering” bags for the most demanding palates.
Grays and pastels will be combined with the warm, autumnal nuances of light woods and with dark earth tones, occasionally rimed with winter frost.
The youthful and alternative trend, “My generation”, will be emphasized by bright, acid colors—not monochromes, but colors layered in an interplay of transparencies. The colors are rebellious and provocative, luminous and vibrant with audacious combinations conceivable only to young people searching for the new in pungent green, scarlet red, cardinal and fuchsia motifs.
“Space oddity” will explore the entire range of colors found in outer space: dark hues, grays, violets, blues and blacks that are not true blacks, but also different types of white in all its possible variants from pure white to off-white, from creams to textures. It is a great mix of sophisticated tints that are at once natural and artificial.
The fourth trend is “Sex in the city”. Obviously inspired by the hit television series, what else could you expect except warm, sensual and passionate reds, spirit-filled cherries, succulent carmines? But there are also deep and dark tints pushed to the limit of non-color.
Gold and silver will be used sparingly only in swaths, small details, spots or light sparkles.
The upcoming season’s forms will feature a wide array of clutch bags to be carried in the hand or under the arm. And there will be no lack of shoppers, abandoning the excessive dimensions of past seasons, while a place of honor will be held by vanity cases, a synonym for security with reassuring zippers for total protection.
Leathers will be woven, braided, roughed, faded or colored, brought to life by quilting and patent leather details.
Animal prints will be used in contrasting, non optical, motifs: python and other reptile skins will be pushed to their wildest limits. Patent leather, on the other hand, will be used exclusively to emphasize graphic motifs, creating eye-catching glossy-opaque contrasts with artificial luminescence and pixellated digital prints.
Other carefully developed materials will be warm, woolly, velvety, with bright and textured embroidery. Natural and eco-chic materials will be given sophistication by the wonders of high tech, making a humble fabric like hemp, for example, into a noble, water-repellent material that can also be used in the winter. The satin-finish will be cast in a discreet-chic role in private luxury details for the connoisseur.
They will be deliberately imperfect garments, one-of-a-kind pieces that mix different genres in what only appears to be a casual way. The logos will be reworked and less visible, perhaps with letters scattered in no particular order. Decorations will be overlaid with glass or natural wood accessories. There will be an abundance of women’s versions of men’s zippers and buckles, snaps and metal or brass handles. Belts will be very wide and embellished with trim.
