He has always worked with the handlooms of India - whether it is the Kerala cottons or the silks from Bhagalpur - this time it was the rich handlooms of Madhya Pradesh that inspired Rahul Mishra to present an ethereal collection called “Let Craft Lead the Way” for the Spring/Summer 2009 season.
Rahul’s cool, comfortable but very innovatively styled collection was lavishly splashed with the most interesting detailing techniques. The pleating was in geometrics, the transparency of the fabrics was balanced by satin lining and subdued colours.
Blending the western silhouettes with the Indian weaves and adding cording as a special ornamental touch, Rahul presented asymmetrical summer dresses, blouses, tops, and some flowing gowns. Impeccable tailoring was a constant factor in the collection, as geometric weaves and cuts appeared for jackets over dresses with stylish large lapels, tie up outfits, one shoulder resort wear, a superb white ruffled dress, floor length gowns, degrade organza layered dresses with corded neckline and contrast piping.
